3 northern APC governors reportedly plan return to PDP

Any moment from now, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly planning to welcome three governors from the north who have been with the All Progressives Congress (APC) as crisis continues in the ruling party.

The Cable reports that, with the successful defection of the three governors, at least 30 senators and 70 members of the House of Representatives will follow suit just before they embark on recess soon.

The report said those likely to defect are members of the members of the Reformed-APC.

The report said Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto state, Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara, and Samuel Ortom of Benue are in the first set of big politicians in the APC to defect.

“The plan also is that some APC governors will not defect but will remain behind to inflict maximum damage on the party from within,” the report quoted a southern governor as saying.

According to the report, “Tambuwal is rumoured to harbour a presidential ambition.”

The report also said Governor Ahmed, who is coming to the end of his second term in Kwara, is expected to run for the senate.

“Ortom, on his own part, has been guaranteed safe return to the PDP by Senator David Mark.

“He is considered the best bet in the circumstance as the incumbent governor, and he can leave the party to George Akume,” the report quoted a source as saying.

It was learnt from the report that the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, is likely to return to the PDP and is reported to be nursing a presidential ambition.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Peoples Democratic Party signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and 31 others.

The agreement was signed at the Musa Yar’Adua centre in Abuja on Monday, July 9.
