World's football governing body, FIFA, has cautioned broadcasters against picking out “hot women” in the crowd during football matches.

According to FIFA the motive behind the latest move is to crack down on cutaways of female fans during matches as part of the federation's efforts to tackle sexism in football.

During Wednesday's media briefing before England's semi-final clash against Croatia, FIFA's diversity boss Federico Addiechi revealed the federation had advised its broadcast service to stop zooming in on “hot women” in the crowd.

It remains unclear if the crackdown would become an official FIFA policy, with Federico indicating that the campaign is not proactive yet.

However, he revealed that FIFA-discrimination group Fare Network has repeatedly decried growing sexism in football especially during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The organisation's executive director Piara Powar observed that contrary to the pre-tournament's concerns that Russia 2018 would be characterized by homophobia and racism, sexism had emerged as a big issue.
