Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state has accused the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) of hijacking the ongoing gubernatorial election in the state.
The governor made the accusation on Saturday, July 14, shortly after casting his vote at his Afao ward unit, Vanguard reports.
He also alleged that majority of his staff have been detained by the police and that security agencies had taken over the responsibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“INEC meant well but the process has been hijacked by police. It is a national disaster,” the governor said.
“I raised this alarm, that this Ekiti election may be marred by violence, and this is what is happening now. “Majority of my staff have been arrested by the police. My chief of staff has been arrested. The security agencies have taken over the responsibility of INEC.
“The police authority has refused to pick their call, you cannot reach any one of them. This is sad.

He alleged that the election was marred by reports of ballot snatching and votes buying in Ado and other areas across the state.
However, the governor expressed the confidence that he the PDP candidate, Kolapo Olusola would defeat Kayode Fayemi of the APC.

According to Daily Sun, the secret police also arrested the chairman, committee on information, Ekiti state House of Assembly, Samuel Omotosho.
Other top government functionaries and about 50 other PDP stalwarts were also arrested late Saturday, July 13. Ogunsakin, who spoke to reporters on phone, some PDP chieftains and Governor Fayose’s aides arrested were picked up with their wives and children.
