- The Buhari administration fault list of Buhari 2019 presidential support committee released by presidential aide, Gideon Sammani
- The secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, asks Nigerians to disregard the announcement by the aide
- President Buhari promises to distribute projects evenly to all 36 states
The Buhari administration has disowned a statement issued by a senior special assistant to president on political matters, Gideon Sammani, announcing the appointment of a former Borno governor, Ali Sheriff, as the director-general of Buhari 2019 presidential support committee.
Sammani had on Friday, July 13, announced that Sheriff would lead a 35-member body, as well as a 10-member national advisory committee and a five-member national patrons with Buhari as the grand patron, Premium Times reports.
The purported list by the aide also named Desmond Elliot as national publicity secretary of the committee, while a popular Kano musician, Dauda Rarara, was named as the national director for music.
But in what appeared to be a twist, the secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, on Saturday, July 14, asked Nigerians to disregard the announcement by Sammani.
Spokesperson of the SGF, Lawrence Ojabo, said the document was unauthorised, misleading and should therefore be totally disregarded.
Ojabo said “The attention of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has been drawn to documents in circulation in print and social media purportedly issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters in the Presidency as public notice, announcing the names of certain individuals and appointing them into different roles under the BUHARI 2019 PRESIDENTIAL SUPPORT COMMITTEE, as well as soliciting for support”.
“It has become imperative to clarify to all Nigerians and in particular to APC members that the said documents are unauthorised, misleading and should therefore be totally disregarded.”
President Muhammadu Buhari disclosed this on Saturday, July 14, at the Alex Ekwuem Federal University Ndifu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI) Ebonyi, while inaugurating ecological projects in the institution.
Buhari, represented by Hajiya Zainab Ahmed, minister for state for budget and planning, noted that the projects were executed by the ecological fund office in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
