Nigeria police offers N5m reward for capture of killers of 11 officers in Abuja, Edo

- The recent ambush attack and killing of policemen while on duty has become a source of worry for the Nigeria Police Force

- Two incidents happened in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, while one other happened in Edo state

- The police is offering N5 million to anyone who can provide evidence to apprehend the culprits

The Nigeria Police Force has promised a N5 million reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the culprits of the killings of policemen in the FCT, Abuja and Edo state.

This was contained in a statement sent to Legit.ng by the force public relations officer, DCP Jimoh Moshood.

The IGP also ordered commissioners of police and their supervising assistant IGPs to beef-up security in their area of responsibilities and embark on massive raids of criminal hideouts and flash-points across the country to forestall any further attack.

He further placed the commissioners of police and police personnel nationwide on red-alert and directs 24 hours crime prevention and police visibility patrol of flash and vulnerable points in their jurisdictions.

The commissioners of police were also mandated to re-gird their crime prevention and control strategies and work with community/religious leaders, other stakeholders and public spirited individuals to nip in the bud crimes and criminality in their areas.

The statement clarified that the incidences in Edo and the FCT had no link, but noted that public spirited individuals have been giving useful information to the police in the investigation into the two incidents.

“In order to arrest the other suspects still at large in the first incident, the force is desirous of more credible information from the public, and hereby pledges a reward of five million naira to any member of the public that provides useful information that leads to the arrest of the remaining perpetrators. The force wishes to assure that the informant will be protected and his/her identity secured.

The Inspector General of Police condoles and sympathises with the families of the slain Policemen and has directed prompt processing and payment of their entitlements and a befitting burial for them.

“The Nigeria Police Force despite these two (2) attacks on its personnel will not relent in ensuring that crimes and criminalities are brought to the barest in the country,” the statement concluded.

Seven policemen were ambushed and killed by unknown gunmen who opened fire on them in Abuja on Monday night, July 2.

On Saturday, July 14, some alleged armed robbers killed four policemen attached to the Sabogidda-Ora division of the force in Edo state and set ablaze their corpses.
