A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Perekeme Kpodoh, has declared that it would be difficult for his party to repeat the Ekiti governorship election success in Bayelsa state.

Kpodoh, a former security adviser to the Bayelsa state government, said it was only wishful thinking for supporters of the APC in Bayelsa to claim that the victory of Kayode Fayemi would be repeated in Bayelsa in 2020.

He based his argument on what he called the acrimony that had taken over the party in his state saying the APC had become more factionalised than it was earlier.

While commending the APC, the winner of the Ekiti election, the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole and President Muhammad Buhari over the victory, Kpodoh argued that

Bayelsa state lacked the desired governorship candidate, internal party rules and support to upstage the PDP.

He said currently, the APC in Bayelsa had been fragmented “with poor internal party rules, lack of participatory democracy and loss of confidence due to violence, cultism and alleged killings.

“First, let me congratulate Kayode Fayemi, the national chairman, Adams Oshiomole, and President Muhammad Buhari.

“They have done well by liberating the people of Ekiti from poverty and a comedic governance of Governor Fayose. Not every governorship candidate can be supported to victory. Bayelsa’s APC candidate is one of them."

He recalled the ill-treatment Oshiomhole received from the unnamed aspirant of the APC in Bayelsa state.

He said the APC in Bayelsa state can only become united if there is sincere reconciliation of members of the party and with genuine primaries.

“The APC is not a one party business to anyone. If the same candidate is put forward by the party in 2020, eighty percent of the party faithful will lose confidence and abandon the party. APC will win if the right and acceptable candidate emerges,” he said.

Concerning an allegation by a former governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, against Seriake Dickson over reported misappropriation of over N1 trillion and debt of over N750 billion, Kpodoh called on the present administration in the state to respond and convince the people that there is no iota of truth in the claims.

He said though Bayelsa had witnessed some transformation, more needed to be achieved just like he commended Governor Nyesom Wike for developing Rivers state.

Legit.ng earlier reported that supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Kayode Fayemi took to the streets in Ekiti following his declaration as governor-elect of the state.
