A group identified as Ekiti Rescue Team (ERT) has urged the attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, to prosecute Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state over illegal announcement of election results on the state broadcasting station.
According to the convener of the group, Ambassador Ilesanmi Ade-Ademola, the state governor attempted to cause crisis in the state through his action, The Nation reports.
NAIJ.com gathers that Malami was urged to initiate charges against Fayose in the court of law to defend himself when he leaves power in October.
The group called on the people of Ekiti state to rally round the governor-elect, Kayode Fayemi, to change the face of the state.
The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) was appreciated by the group for swiftly shutting down the TV and radio stations being used by Fayose to announce the results of the election, noting only the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has the power to collate and announce elections in any state.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Dr Kayode Fayemi took to the streets in Ekiti following his declaration as governor-elect of the state.
Fayemi won the gubernatorial election which took place on Saturday, July 14 to defeat his closest rival, Professor Kolapo Olusola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
