- The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo has said that the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ekiti governorship polls is a bad signal to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state
- The ruling party also said that the outcome of the polls heralded doom for other PDP governors in the south-south region
- It further said that the party's next move is to conquer all states in the region come 2019 general elections
Following the declaration of the results of the recent Ekiti governorship polls, the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo state has said that the defeat of Ayodele Fayose at the election was a potential signal to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers and other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors in the south-south region, The Nation reports.
The APC said it would take the lead in the 2019 general elections as most of all the south-south states come under the party.
Lawrence Okah, the state secretary of the party who made this statement to newsmen urged Nigerians to stop believing what he described rumors and lies the PDP posted on the social media during the Ekiti governorship election.
Okah stated that APC's victory in Ekiti heralded the party's readiness to win other south-south states.
Okah stated: “The APC is the party to beat in any election. We went to Ekiti to defect an incumbent. With Ekiti victory, we have taken over the South West. Our next journey is the South South.
“All those things you hear from the social media will not stop the APC to ensuring that the right thing is done.
“Only a mental person could do what Fayose has done to announce election results. Any sane pêrson knows that only INEC has the powers to announce election result. The FG should send Fayose to a psychiatrist.”
Taiwo Akerele, the chief of staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki, said the Ekiti people have showed that they were led astray by Fayose’s stomach infrastructure.
Akerele said: “You recall that four years ago, this same man was cheated by the ruling PDP out of power and he didn’t complain, he accepted and he moved on but today, the people of Ekiti state have realised that they were cheated and deceived by stomach infrastructure and they have come back and re-elected the man because they have confidence in him.”
NAIJ.com gathered that the party, in a statement by its the national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said it rejected Fayose's claim that policemen were drafted to Ekiti state to harass PDP supporters in Saturday's July 12, governorship election in favour of the APC governorship candidate, Kayode Fayemi.
