- Senator Shehu Sani is having a running battle with Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state
- A PDP source says the lawmaker may not be able to clinch the PDP governorship ticket if he contests with other guber aspirants
- Saraki speaks on dumping APC
Reports have emerged that Senator Shehu Sani might have dropped his plans to contest for the 2019 governorship race in Kaduna state.
Leadership, citing multiple sources in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reports that the senator who is having a running battle with Governor Nasir El-Rufai, is currently in talks with the PDP for second term senatorial ticket. The newspaper states that if Senator Sani secures the deal, he would leave the APC for the PDP.
A PDP source explained that Sani’s decision to drop his governorship ambition was prompted by the fact that he may not be able to clinch the PDP governorship ticket if he decides to contest with other guber aspirants.
“We are discussing in series of our meetings, very soon, a deal will be reached. As a party, our doors are open for all to come in. It will be better for him to run for second term because he may not get the governorship ticket because time is almost up and he is yet to decamp,” a PDP chieftain said.
