- The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed dates for fresh congresses to be conducted in Imo state
- This was in adherence to the recent Federal High Court's cancellation of the parallel and rather controversial congresses in the state
- The APC, in the person of its new organising secretary, Emmanuel Ibediro, announced that the electoral activities will start from ward congresses
In compliance to the Federal High Court's order that cancelled the rather controversial and parallel congresses in Imo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has finally fixed dates for new convention to be carried out in the state, Premium Times reports.
Adhering to the order, the party, through Emmanuel Ibediro, its new organising secretary, announced that it will hold congresses in the state starting with ward congresses.
The state chapter of the party had witnessed a congress between Governor Rochas Okorocha’s faction and that of the then national organising secretary, Osita Izunaso.
However, the APC recognised and swore in Izunaso’s faction which was chaired by Hillary Eke in spite of eyebrows and contrary comments put forward by Okorocha.
The inauguration of the executives, however, did not stop the governor from agitating that the congresses be cancelled.
The congresses are to follow this sequence: ward congress to be held on Friday, July 20, local government congress on Saturday, July 21, and state congress on Monday, July 23.
Earlier, NAIJ.com reported that the last elections into wards, local government areas and state congresses of the Imo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress had been nullified by a Federal High Court in Owerri on Thursday, July 5.
Justice Lewis Allagoa, the presiding judge also ordered APC “to be responsible, save our democracy by conducting free and fair congresses in Imo state”.
