- Chamberlain will miss most of next season with a knee injury

- Boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed what most Liverpool fans dreaded to hear

- The Liverpool boss further said next season will be about rehabilitation for the midfielder

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alex Oxlade Chamberlain will miss most part of the 2018-19 league season.

The England international suffered a terrible knee injury during his side's Champions League semifinal second leg clash in late April against Roma.

An injury that forced him to miss both the final of the European elite club competition and this year's FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Meanwhile, Klopp, during his press conference on Wednesday, July 18, the German tactician revealed that his 24-year-old midfielder still struggles with the knee-ligament damage in that game against the Italian club side.

According to the Reds boss, majority of the upcoming season will be primarily focused on rehab for the Englishman.

"It feels like now is an appropriate time to tell people that for Ox, this season will be about focusing on recovery and rehab.

"We have known this from pretty much the day after he got the injury" he said.

Because of the knee injury, Chamberlain had to be axed out of the England squad for the World Cup. The three Lions would go on to reach the semi finals where they were eliminated by an inspirational Croatia.

At the time of the injury, the time frame of Chamberlain’s recovery remained uncertain, although it was certain he would miss the World Cup.

Having only moved from Arsenal in the summer of the 2017/2018 season for € 38 million, news that he would be out for majority of his second season was predictably not taken very well by Liverpool fans.

Jurgen Klopp will however be encouraged by his new signings as well as potential deals which could be sealed in the next few weeks to bolster the squad in the wake of Chamberlain’s lengthy spell on the sidelines.
