- Senator Shehu Sani says the arrogance of the presidency and certain chieftains of the APC would undermine the party’s fortunes at the 2019 general elections
- He expressed concern that the presidency has since shut its doors against genuine party faithful who want the Buhari administration to succeed
- Sani urged the party to stretch the hands of friendship and cooperation to people, irrespective of their political party affiliation and passion
Senator Shehu Sani has stated that the fortunes of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would be undermined at the 2019 general elections due to the arrogance of the presidency and certain chieftains of the party.
Sani, who represents the Kaduna central zone in the upper legislative chamber, made the comment while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, July 18, Tribune reports.
NAIJ.com gathers that the lawmaker expressed concern that the presidency has since shut its doors against genuine party faithful who want the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to succeed.
According to the senator, the present administration would only be able to surmount the present enormous challenges the country is contending with, if it interfaces with Nigerians across party lines.
He said: “Well, it is very clear that we should vote for people irrespective of their political affiliation; those who can deliver us out of Egypt and to the promised land. We should move away from that thinking that one political party can solve the problems of Nigeria.
“The challenge is the crisis, and the problems we face as the nation today cannot be addressed without a national consensus and without a collective approach to our national problems.
“In a situation where we think the president has a monopoly of wisdom and the solution to the problems, we are simply deceiving ourselves. President Muhammadu alone cannot solve the problem of Nigeria.
“It is important for him to be honest and understand that. It is also important for the APC to understand that. They must stretch the hands of friendship and cooperation to people, irrespective of their political party affiliation and passion because the crisis in this country is so multi dimensional and it requires a national resolve and national unity in order to address it.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Senator Shehu Sani said he and some other members of the All Progressives Congress have been maltreated by the party, and they are in talks with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Sani said contrary to reports, he is yet to dump the APC but he might soon do that. He accused his party of injustice and marginalisation.
