- APC accuses PDP of trying to hide its irredeemably bad image under the heap of a new coalition
- The ruling party says the failure of the PDP to resolve its crisis led to the mass exodus which crippled the opposition
- Saraki, Dogara, Tambuwal, Kwankwaso, others get 2-week deadline to move to PDP
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of taking advantage of misunderstandings within it ranks to feast on its members.
The spokesperson for the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, made the accusation on Sunday, July 22, when defending efforts by national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, to dissuade aggrieved party members from leaving the party, This Day reports.
The APC said the PDP was trying to hide its irredeemably bad image under the heap of a new coalition.
“After three years in the wilderness, the PDP is understandably excited with possibility of hiding its irredeemably bad image under the heap of a new coalition.
“Like the vulture, PDP sees every altercation as a potential opportunity for a feast.
“If PDP is not alleging wild conspiracies, they are threatening to boycott elections or announcing fake defections. What is clear with all these is that no matter how long a leopard lives, it cannot change its spots,” the party said.
The APC said it was the failure of the PDP to resolve its crisis that led to the mass exodus which crippled the party.
The ruling party said it was the right thing President Muhammadu Buhari and Adams Oshiomhole were doing by dissuading party members from defecting.
“And that game is addition. If the PDP had the same presence of mind in 2015, perhaps the calamity that befell them would have been averted.
“We challenge the PDP to face Nigerians on their own merit in 2019 and stop shopping around for supporters,” it said.
Meanwhile, Senate president Bukola Saraki and other aggrieved members of the Reformed All Progressives Congress faction of the ruling party have been given a two-week deadline to decide on their defection to the opposition PDP.
The Nation reports on Sunday, July 22 that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given Saraki, and House of Representatives speaker Yakubu Dogara among others a two-week deadline to make up their minds.
Also getting the deadline are governors Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) and Samuel Ortom (Benue). Ex-governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, many senators and members of the House of Representatives.
