Nigerian couple celebrate 35 years of blissful marriage (photos)

Ayo and Oluwatoyin Tijani's love is the kind most young couple anticipate when they walk down the aisle and exchange marital vows. After spending a decade courting each other, the Tijanis, had nothing but pockets filled with hope and God's love when they walked down the aisle on July 23, 1983.

Interestingly, it started out as a match made in heaven. Beautiful Oluwatoyin started as a first year student in Iwo Grammar School, Osun state, while Ayo was a prefect in the same school in his final year.

Fate and cupid joined hands and young prefect Ayo was posted to monitor Form One. It was during one of his duties he met diligent Toyin who wanted more than anything academic success. Her quest for such attainment attracted him and wanting the same thing, they both became partners in studying their variety of school subjects.

Before long, they built a healthy friendship and went ahead to date till they both graduated. While he left in 1972, his then future wife graduated in 1976. From that point, their love blossomed. They shared everything together despite attending separate universities and when the time came to exchange marital vows, they did it as devoted Muslims.

A huge change occurred in their lives in 1986 when Oluwatoyin decided to convert to a Christian and dedicate her life to Jesus Christ. Rather than coerce her husband to join her new faith, she turned to God in prayer.

For the second time since their wedding, an answered prayer activated, and roughly a year or two later, Ayo took the bold decision to become a Christian as well. Ayo and Toyin are strong believers that making Jesus the third cord in their three-fold marriage is what has kept them together with all the abundance and peace they need in life.

With three adorable children, the Tijanis marked their 35th wedding anniversary on July 23, with the most adorable photos.

Their second son, Mayowa, shared the photos on his Instagram page with heart-melting words. Read post below:

Speaking to Legit.ng, Ayo, revealed that their marriage has withstood the test of time because of the grace of God. He also shared a post on Facebook. His post reads: "All Glory Honour & Adoration be to The Author of Marriage that ALLOWED THIS NUPTIAL KNOT between my Heart Throb and I 3.5 Decades ago. It was The Lord's doing... Today as ever would be,IT IS NEW EVERY MORNING!!! Beloved, join us to GLORIFY GOD'S NAME for His PRESENCE in the relationship. He Has been MERCIFUL TO US. The best Testimony is KNOWING JESUS CHRIST AS LORD & PERSONAL SAVIOUR. May He Uphold us to the end IJMM. AMEN"

Worthy of note, at a point in their marriage, he lectured for 10 years before moving to work with the West African Examinations Council, retiring as the head of the Ondo state office.

Success beckoned in the trail of Toyin's career as well as she joined the Airforce group of schools in Markurdi.

Despite being in different cities, their love carved on a solid foundation, remained fastened.

For many young couples, the Tijani's are a source of inspiration and indeed, when two hearts belong together, nothing can keep them apart.
