Senators, Reps' defection a rejection of APC government - PDP spokesman

- President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has been condemned by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

- Kola Ologbondiyan, national publicity secretary of the PDP who declared that the APC has failed Nigerians rejoiced at the defection of some lawmakers from the the ruling party to the PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the defection of some lawmakers from the All Progressives Congress (APC) is an indication that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has failed.

Kola Ologbondiyan, national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed that the defection of some lawmakers from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to PDP is a sign that the ruling party has failed Nigerians.

Ologbondiyan who made this claim on Wednesday, July 25, in an interview with Channels TV said the PDP is very happy with the defections.

“What happened on the floor of the Senate, as well as the floor of the House of Representatives, is a clear indication of the rejection of APC and the President Muhammadu Buhari by Nigerians."

“We are very happy with their defection because it signposts the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has failed woefully, and Nigerians have become disenchanted with the government,” he said.

“The representatives of Nigerians are demonstrating the anger and the disappointment of Nigerians with their government. That is what led to the defection that we are witnessing,” he added.

Going further, Ologbondiyan who claimed that the PDP has been accepted as the party of choice in Nigeria following the defections said some governors on the platform of the ruling party would be joining the PDP soon.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that governors in Nigeria elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will meet in Abuja, the capital of the country, to brainstorm on the best strategy to counter the mass defections that have hit the party.

This revelation is contained in a report a news outlet which quoted a source as saying: “More than 20 governors would attend and they have a strong agenda which is to ensure that there would be no ripple effects in the states where we all know the bulk of the problem lies."
