- Manchester City confirm the signing of Claudio Gomes from Paris Saint-Germain
- The defensive midfielder's contract with the Ligue 1 outfit ended last season
- The 18-year-old has been impressive with the Citizens in their US pre-season tour
English champions Manchester City have confirmed the signing of French starlet Claudio Gomes from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 18-year-old has joined on a free transfer after his contract with the Ligue 1 champions expired.
The defensive midfielder has already been impressing Pep Guardiola while training with the City squad in the United States.
But Guardiola was still unsure whether the Frenchman will be part of his first-team squad in the coming Premier League when asked the question.
Guardiola said: “He has been so good, so good.
“My opinion is that at that age you have to play. You need minutes, if not with us then with the second team.
“But it could be like what happened with Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz - he could stay with us, because from what we have seen in these days, the impression is good, so good.”
Gomes never made a senior appearance for PSG after coming through the ranks but has won caps for France at U-16, U-17 and U-18 levels respectively.
City had an agreement with the ace in January after being allowed to speak with the Manchester club when he entered the final six months of his contract.
Assistant coach Mikel Arteta is believed to have played a huge role in helping to lure Gomes from Parc des Princes to the Etihad.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported Liverpool defeated Manchester City 2-1 in the International Cup played in the United States.
Leroy Sane opened scoring in the second half as Mohamed Salah equalized 52 seconds after coming in for Curtis Jones.
Sadio Mane sealed the win the with a late penalty as the Reds ran away with a 2-1 victory on the night.
