Premier League club Chlesea have missed out on the race to land Russian World Cup star Aleksandr Golovin, Sport Express reports.
The 22-year-old who made his mark for his country at the World Cup has penned a five-year deal with Monaco.
Monaco's vice-president Vadim Vasilyev confirmed to Russia media outfit, Sport Express, Golovin waited until the last minute before chosing the Ligue 1 club.
Chelsea were in the running for Golovin's signature after he helped fire Russia to a narrow quarter-final exit.
Sport Express claim CSKA Moscow had accepted a £27m fee but Golovin was keen to bide his time and wait for the best offer and now it appears Maurizio Sarri's side have lost the race.
Vasiliev revealed: "Monaco and CSKA Moscow today agreed on the transfer of Golovin on a five-year contract.
"Honestly, until the last moment I was not sure that I would be able to co-ordinate this transfer.
"In addition to Chelsea, Golovin also claimed Juventus had interest. However, our main competitor was Chelsea.
"I believe that Monaco offered more favourable conditions for the club and a more understandable project for the player."
Respected Russia journalist Artur Petrosyan also confirmed Monaco were on the brink of completing for the attacker.
He tweeted: "Golovin is heading to Monaco for a medical."
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Chelsea have signed veteran goalkeeper Robert Green on a free.
The 38-year-old shot-stopper will act as back up for Thibaut Courtois and Caballero for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
