Cristano Ronaldo has been handed a suspended 2 year jail sentence.

Further reports indicate the deal involved Ronaldo avoiding jail if he pleaded guilty to the tax fraud charges. The fact that he is a first time offender also played in his favor in avoiding setting foot in prison.

Ronaldo’s greatest rival Lionel Messi also faced similar charges in 2017 and he was sentenced to a 21 month jail term with a sum of £2 million while his father bagged a £1.5m fin for the same offence.

Part of the factors that heavily played in Ronaldo’s decision to ditch Spain for Italian football included the manner in which he felt authorities were handling his tax situation.

Ronaldo was allegedly growing increasingly fed up with the hefty tax imposed on star foreign footballers such as himself and Italy came calling with far more favorable tax conditions.
