- Red Devils move for Foxes' England star Harry Maguire according to reports may not see the light of the day
- Leicester City eggheads are keen for a £75m deal while Manchester United are ready to splash about £55m
- The Three Lions defender is eager to seal the switch to Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window
Premier League side Manchester United were left speechless in their chase for Leicester City star Harry Maguire after the Foxes asked for a record-equaling deal for the defender, according to a UK Metro report.
Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho is eager to land a centre-back at the ongoing summer transfer and the Old Trafford dwellers tried to price Maguire two weeks ago after failing to seal a move for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld with the North London side insisting on £75million.
On the other hand, Maguire moved to Leicester City last summer in a deal that could rise to as much as £17m but his valuation increased after a decent performance at the global football fiesta with England’s Three Lions, appearing in all seven of England games.
The Red Devils opened discussions with Leicester this week on their intention to sign Maguire but were shocked when the Foxes eggheads demanded in excess of £75m for the Three Lions ace.
Leicester chief Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha is known for his tough stands when negotiating transfer deals and demanded around £90m from Premier League champions Manchester City for Riyad Mahrez during the winter transfers in January.
The Foxes eggheads insist they are facing a similar scenario now with just 14 days left of the transfer window and want only a deal that equal the £75m Liverpool coughed out for Virgil van Dijk.
Interestingly, that switch saw Van Dijk emerge the most expensive defender in history and the report suggests the Old Trafford are not ready to splash that much for Maguire.
Already, eggheads of the Red Devils were willing to plot a contract that could rise to about £55m, taking into account the defender’s increased valuation from his apperance at the World Cup.
Maguire, for his part, is eager to switch base to Old Trafford from the King Power Stadium and is reported to be quietly optimistic that he’ll complete the move to Manchester United player before the end of the summer transfer window.
However, Maguire might opt for a transfer request to see the deal go through as it will no doubt affect Leicester’s valuation of the defender.
In addition, the Foxes are not under pressure to sell as Maguire still has four years on his current contract and it will be pretty tough to find a decent replacement before the end of the window.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Manchester United are interested in signing Leicester City's Harry Maguire this summer.
The Red Devils have signed a few players during this summer transfer window but still needed to strengthen his defence line.
They have identified the 25-year-old as their target and they will be forced to pay as much as £50 million to secure the signature of the defender.
