Attacks on Zamfara communities have crippled economic activities in the state - Yari

- Governor Alhaji Abdul’Aziz Yari of Zamfara says the economy of his state is crippled due to killings and attacks on residents

- Yari condemns recent attacks on villages in the state as inhuman

- The governor charges security agencies to intensify protection of lives and properties in the state

Governor Alhaji Abdul’Aziz Yari of Zamfara has raised an alarm over recent attacks on parts of the state, killing of residents and destruction of properties, saying these incidents have crippled the economy of most of its areas.

Daily Sun reports that Yari condemned the attacks by bandits in a statement signed by the special adviser, public enlightenment, media and communication, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, saying these acts are inhuman.

The statement said the governor was not happy about the attacks in some communities in Zurmi, Maradun and Bungudu local government areas and other parts of the state.

According to the governor, attacks on innocent people in Kalage, Birane and Kwaddi villages of Zurmi council as well as Karakai and Gamagiwa towns in Bungudu and Maradun local government areas are just ungodly, devastating and reflect the insanity level of the bandits.

“Attacks on innocent people who were undergoing their lawful businesses, particularly farming activities are devastating and have crippled the economic growth of the state.

“If the security agencies intensified efforts in their constitutional responsibilities of protecting lives and property of the citizenry, the insecurity being faced all over the country would be over,” he said while calling residents of the state to remain law abiding and assist security agents with relevant information in dealing with the bandits.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that some suspected gunmen believed to be hired assassins reportedly attacked and killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and chairman of the party in Ideato local government area of Imo state.
