Nigerian Twitter users, particularly the followers of the senator representing Kogi west in the Senate, Dino Melaye, have expressed doubts about his claim that he was kidnapped on the evening of Wednesday, July 25.
Senator Melaye had been scheduled to appear in a high court to face charges of gun-running, but he was absent at the proceeding on Thursday, July 26.
His lawyer, Barrister Yemi Mohammed, who stood in for Mike Ozekhome (SAN) told the trial magistrate, Suleyman Abdalah, that he had it on good authority that Senator Melaye was attacked in Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Wednesday, July 25 on his way home from the court.
On Friday, July 27, Senator Melaye resurfaced on Twitter to narrate how he allegedly escaped from his “abductors” and trekked for 11 hours in the “wilderness” until he reached a safe haven.
"I thank God once again for escaping another dangerous attack. I also thank Nigerians for their prayers and show of Love. Spent 11 hours in the wilderness traumatized but God preserved me. God is the best and in whom ONLY I trust. They will continue to try. WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!," he tweeted.
However, most of the reactions trailing the controversial senator's tweet suggests that many Nigerians doubt the alleged abduction.
Jamil Marafa, in his own reaction, describes Melaye as "the best actor 2018" and "the best prisoner 2019".
In the same vein, @kelvinayomide also believed that Senator Melaye's kidnap story was staged. He tweeted: "Whoever is writing these scripts you are acting is an amateur...he keeps exposing you to ridicules."
Uchechukwu sarcastically likens Senator Melaye to the legendary Hollywood actor, Jack Bauer.
While, Jevwegaga Helen describes him as James Bond:
Azeez Saka did not buy Melaye's story as well.
"Dino dino, I just dey laugh, walahi if I say I should comment I will just insult u.Reserved my comment till you act another drama," he tweeted.
Olagunju Oladele did a sarcastic “video” of his “escape:”
For @olumideomowaiye, the senator's alleged abduction is just a "childish political game".
Ibrahim Ijaola reminds him of the next court date.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Senator Dino Melaye was on Wednesday, July 25, arraigned in a FCT high court, Apo, on a six-count charge bordering on an attempt to escape from custody and damage of Police property.
Melaye who represents Kogi west senatorial zone denied committing the offences, while Justice Silvanus Oriji granted him bail in the sum of N5 million.
