Arsenal have suffered a huge blow as AS Roma have reportedly agreed a deal with Sevilla to sign their midfielder Steven N'Zonzi this summer.
The Gunners boss Unai Emery was hoping to re-unite with his former player but this time at the Emirates Stadium before the start of a new season.
However, this fast move may have ended the hopes of the north London club from achieving their aim for the player.
The 29-year-old was pasr of the French team that lifted the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia after beating Croatia in the final of the tournament.
Meanwhile, SunSport quoting a sports journalist Mootaz Chehade, claims the Serie A outfit have agreed a £22 million deal with the Spanish side for the transfer of the player.
But, they will have to offload ex-Lyon ace Maxime Gonalons before they can bring N’Zonzi to the Stadio Olimpico.
He tweeted: "AS Roma have secured a deal with Sevilla for Steven N’Zonzi for €25million (£22m) plus bonuses, but Maxime Gonalons has to leave first."
Spanish League champions Barcelona were reportedly interested in the midfielder, but according to reports in Spain, the pursuit was said to have been surrendered after Lionel Messi passed a vote of no confidence on the player.
N'Zonzi, who joined Sevilla in 2015 from Stoke City has been superb for the team – helping the club to the Europa League in his opening campaign.
He has made 136 appearances in all competitions for Pablo Machin’s side – scoring eight times in the process.
Arsenal were told to cough up £35m if they wanted to land the Les Bleus maestro, but balked at the offer – leading N’Zonzi to demand a move away.
The Gunners have already brought central midfielders Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi – the latter shining under Emery during pre-season.
