Spanish League champions Barcelona kicked off their preseason preparation with a slim victory over Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the International Champions Cup earlier today.
The La Liga side settled down quickly in the game as Spain forward Munir El Haddadi opened scoring in the 15th minute.
Barely 14 minutes later, the club's new signing Arthur Melo doubled Barca's lead in the 29th minute as they went undefeated in the first half of the meeting.
The table turned in the second half after series of tactical changes by both sides but it was the EPL side that got the better of the remainder of the game.
Heung-Min Son reduced the deficit for Spurs in the 73rd minute and just two minutes later, Georges N'Koudou leveled up for Mauricio Pochettino's side and stretch the match into penalties.
However, Ernesto Valverde's side went ahead to win the game 5-3 on penalties to claim their first preseason victory in the ICC tournament.
The Catalans will battle Italian League side, AS Roma in a rematch of their UEFA Champions League second semifinal clash on Wednesday, August 1.
While Spurs will are scheduled to face Inter Milan in a bid to redeem themselves in the preseason competition.
