A recent Nigerian dance step that has gone global is the Shaku Shaku dance. You can't go to a party these days and not see people dancing Shaku Shaku to any song played at the party.

Despite the fact that many people have been doing the Shaku Shaku dance, many don't know it's origin. A Nigerian Twitter account has claimed that the dance steps is one that originated from criminals.

According to the Twitter account, Shaku Shaku is a dance done by criminals when they are in handcuffs. It also alleged that the Shaku is a word derived from the word shackles.

The Twitter account further added three more points to back up the claims. It revealed that the hand on cheek when dancing was formed to describe when a criminal calls his girlfriend for bail.
