Security beefed up around Kano deputy governor over alleged threat to his life

- The police authorities in Kano state have reacted to the state deputy governor, Hafiz Abubakar's complaint of alleged threat to his life

- Magaji Majia, the state police public relations officer, said some necessary measures have been taken to protect the deputy governor’s life

- Majia noted that more security personnel have been deployed to his residence and convoy

The police authorities in Kano state have intensified the security around the state deputy governor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, following a complaint of alleged threat to his life.

Daily Trust reports that the state police public relations officer, Magaji Musa Majia, on Tuesday, July 31, said some necessary measures had been taken to protect the deputy governor’s life.

He said: “As number two citizen, the deputy governor deserves protection from us. So, we have deployed more security personnel to his residence and convoy and we have placed another team of undercover security operatives around him for effective surveillance.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the Kano state deputy governor, Hafiz Abubakar petitioned the police and SSS over threat to his life and plans to impeach him following the impeachment of the speaker Yusuf Atta.

In the petition, addressed to the state police commissioner, Rabiu Yusuf, copied to the assistant inspector-general in charge of zone one and the state director of SSS, the deputy governor, prayed for the deployment of more security operatives around him.

He accused the state government of disbursing funds to mobilize youths from the 44 local government areas of the state to protest against his continued stay in office.

In a related development, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje who reacted to the removal of Abdullahi Ata as the speaker of the Kano state House of Assembly, described it as a necessary and smooth change that will strengthen the internal politics of the state.

Ata was removed on Monday, July 30, alongside two other principal officers. Ganduje, while speaking on the impeachment said: “The leadership change shows how Kano as a state is serious about internal democracy.

“Being an issue of internal democracy, that was why it took place smoothly without any fracas on the floor of the House. It is indeed a smooth change. As a veteran with legislative issues, I know this will further strengthen our internal democracy."
