President Rodrigo Duterte of Philippines has overseen the destruction of $5.5 million worth of luxury cars and motorcycles as part of his campaign against corruption.
CNN reports that the vehicles, which were destroyed on Monday, July 29, were all part of a haul of 800 illegally imported into the Philippines.
NAIJ.com gathers that the president watched on as a bulldozer crushed 76 smuggled cars and motorbikes, including models by Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.
According to reports, Duterte ordered the destruction of 30 luxury cars in February, saying selling confiscated cars at auction would allow crime syndicates to bid for them under false identities.
The president who has vowed to step down if he fails to stamp out corruption, said: "You know, before a place can really be developed or a viable place to do business, you have to establish first law and order."
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the president of Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, apologised to God for calling Him "stupid", a remark that had caused an uproar among members of the Catholic Church and other religious groups.
Duterte made the apology during a meeting with evangelist Bro Eddie Villanueva at the Malago Golf Club in Malacañang on the night of Tuesday, July 10.
