President Muhammadu Buhari met with some senators of the All Progressives Congress at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, August 1.
The development was made public by the personal assistant to the president on new media, Bashir Ahmad, via his Twitter handle, @BashirAhmaad.
As he tweeted:
Details of the meeting are not yet known at this time.
Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari met with senators on the platform of the All Progressives Congress at the Aso Rock Villa on Wednesday, July 25.
The meeting was reportedly related to the mass defection of senators on the platform to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Days after the meeting, no fewer than three governors have dumped the APC for the PDP.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state on Wednesday, August 1, defected from the ruling party to his former party, the PDP. He said the APC has brazenly turned itself into a sanctuary for the corrupt and a machine for rigging.
The governor also said the country's economy is not showing any real signs of improvement saying that it is unacceptable that majority of those who voted for APC in 2015 should have nothing good to show for it.
Eighteen out of the 30 members of the Sokoto state House of Assembly also defected from the ruling party.
