The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hosted its returnees to a dinner in Abuja.
The opposition party hosted the defectors at the Transcorp Hotel in Abuja on Wednesday, August 1.
There has been a gale of defection to the PDP particularly from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Some of the early arrivals into the Congress Hall, venue of the dinner/welcome party include former Senate president, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu; former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido; ex- Adamawa state governor, Boni Haruna; erstwhile minister of special duties, Tanimu Turaki; former minister of national planning, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman; and ex- former deputy governor of Sokoto, Mukhtar Shagari.
Meanwhile, after several weeks of speculation, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state on Wednesday, August 1, defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to his former party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the declaration followed a solidarity rally organised by the governor’s supporters across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Tambuwal told supporters at the rally that the defection came after due consultations with the people and response to calls by major stakeholders in the state.
