Why I dumped APC for PDP - Ex-envoy Ibeto

- A former Nigeria’s ambassador to South Africa, Ahmed Ibeto, has disclosed why he dumped the ruling APC to the opposition PDP

- The former ambassador disclosed that he wants to achieve his vision to transform Niger state

- Ibeto who dismissed insinuations that there was disagreement between him and the leadership of the APC in the state said he does not play politics of bitterness

A former Nigeria’s ambassador to South Africa, Alhaji Ahmed Ibeto, said he dumped the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to the opposition People Democratic Party (PDP) to actualise his vision and transform Niger state.

Daily Sun reports that Ibeto who made this known shortly after obtaining PDP card No 023, at Ibelu ward, on Tuesday, July 31, said he would bring his wealth of experience to bear in the development of the state.

Ibeto noted that he remained grateful to President Buhari for appointing him as an ambassador to represent Nigeria in South Africa, and for the confidence he reposed in him, as a politician, to serve Nigeria.

The former ambassador said he didn't have any grudges with anyone and insisted that even former governor, Mua’azu Babangida Aliyu, his former boss, remains his leader and one of those he respects.

He said he resigned from his ambassadorial position to return to the PDP again, through which he would freely express his political ambition as a free citizen of Nigeria.

He dismissed insinuations that there was disagreement between him and the leadership of the APC in the state and said, “I don’t play politics of bitterness.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that Nigeria’s ambassador to South Africa, Ahmed Ibeto announced his defection from the ruling APC under which he secured the appointment from President Buhari. Ibeto also resigned as Nigeria's ambassador.

According to the report, Ibeto reportedly arrived Nigeria from Pretoria, South Africa, on Sunday, July 29, and in the morning of Monday, July 30, he handed over his letter of resignation at the external affairs ministry.

The report however said it could not confirm if Ibeto saw President Muhammadu Buhari before returning to Minna, the capital of Niger state.
