Saraki, other defectors are political butterflies - Union leader

Comrade Issa Aremu, the general secretary of the National Union of Textiles and Garment Workers of Nigeria (NUTGWN), has chided politicians who recently defected to other political parties; referring to them as being without principle.

Aremu, who wants to contest for the Kwara governorship seat in 2019, made the comment as he presented his expression of interest form to the national chairman of the Labour Party, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the union leader took particular aim at Senate president Bukola Saraki, who he said had made a hobby out of dumping parties.

Aremu described the defectors as political butterflies who were bent on serving their unquenchable selfish interests.

He condemned the gale of defections in Kwara, and said the dramatic voyage of decamping in the state, spearheaded by Saraki, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, the speaker and 23 members of the House of Assembly, was an embarrassment to the people of the state.

Aremu further lamented over comments credited to Saraki, that he left the All Progressives Congress (APC) because he was not given any of the 200 juicy appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the federal government on Wednesday, August 1, said that the defection of Senate president Bukola Saraki from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was a great relief to the party.

The government said that Saraki was always an opposition in the ruling party, who used his position as Senate president to frustrate the workings of the government.
