Atletico Madrid set their sights on embattled Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi

- Diego Simeone has also looked at a possible swoop for Nikolai Kalinic

Atletico Madrid have made Chelsea striker Mitchy Batshuayi their target with less than seven days left to transfer deadline.

Los Rojiblancos have made attempts to sign Nikola Kalinic from AC Milan but new owners of the San Siro club have a different view about the offer.

Blues' striker Olivier Giroud is one alternative to Kalinic but he is now joined by Batshuayi, who scored Chelsea's winner against Atletico at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in last season's Champions League group stage.

The Belgium international fits Los Rojiblancos' desires for a new striker; a proven goalscorer, experienced in Europe and available on loan.

But Atletico are not yet giving up hope of landing Kalinic either as they await the verdict on his potential switch from Milan.

And with Gonzalo Higuain's move to the San Siro from Juventus potentially unlocking that deal, the Croatian could be regarded as surplus to requirement at San Siro.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported Unai Emery tasted his first defeat as Arsenal manager after losing 3-1 on penalties to Atletico Madrid following a 1-1 draw on regulation time.

Argentine striker Luciano Vietto scored a fine header towards the end of the first half and Smith Rowe got the equalizer immediately after the restart.
