Defectors are frustrated opportunists - APC lawmaker declares

- Adedotun Adegbola, an APC lawmaker in Lagos state, says those who defected from the ruling party are frustrated opportunists who won’t win their elections in 2019

- He referred to them as ‘viruses’ in the party; but said once they leave, strength would return

- Another APC lawmaker also said that the defections were done for selfish reasons

An All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker in Lagos state, Adedotun Adegbola, on Thursday, August 2, said that politicians who defected from the party would not win in the 2019 elections.

Adegbola spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of Risikat Adegeye’s declaration to contest for the Amuwo Odofin federal constituency in the 2019 elections.

Legit.ng gathers that he described those who left APC as frustrated opportunists.

“None of them will win their elections. None of them will win another seat. That is their last tenure. They are gone with the wind. It makes us stronger. The virus in the party is going out.

“Ordinarily, there may be viruses in your system; but the moment they start getting out of your system, you start feeling better, feeling stronger,” said the Lagos lawmaker.

Another lawmaker, Tunde Ajayi, said the defections were done for selfish ambitions.

“I’m not bothered; they scampered in and scampered out. So we’re not bothered at all. If you look at them, it is for selfish reasons; and because they can’t achieve their selfish ambitions, that’s why they’re going back," he said.

Ajayi urged the people to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise which would end on August 17, to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the spokesman for President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 presidential campaign, Festus Keyamo (SAN), said the defection by APC lawmakers to the PDP will not affect the president's re-election bid.

Keyamo said the president won with large margins in the past in some states, without the support of majority of the politicians from those states who are now members of the opposition party.
