Chelsea’s Brazilian midfielder Willian returned to training with Chelsea on Thursday, and the Brazilian looked sharp to impress new boss Maurizio Sarri ahead of the Community Shield season raiser against Manchester City on Sunday.
According to a Daily Mail report, the 29-year-old midfielder who is reportedly linked with a summer switch to the Los Blancos, saw his return to the United Kingdom for training from extended vacation after playing at the summer World Cup pushed back after the expiration of his passport.
However, the Brazilian star has now rejoined his Chelsea teammates at Cobham and took part in the day’s session as Sarri's squad continues preparations for Sunday's contest.
Interestingly, Willian resumed training at Chelsea on Wednesday, five days behind schedule, but the Premier League side revealed that the Selecao ace communicated with eggheads of the west London side in advance of the issues he had to sort out before heading back and remained in constant touch.
Already, Willian had reaffirmed his commitment to Chelsea early in the week despite Real Madrid interest, telling Globo Esporte: “[Leaving?] No, I'm back to England. I'm very happy at Chelsea. I'm very happy living in London.”
On the other hand, the pre-season has been a tough call for Chelsea, who suffered defeat on penalties by Arsenal in Ireland on Wednesday night after both teams played out a 1-1 in regulation time.
Earlier on, Chelsea beat Australia’s Perth Glory 1-0 before edging Inter Milan in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.
After the game against City, Chelsea face Lyon in a friendly at Stamford Bridge on August 7, before getting their Premier League campaign underway when they face Huddersfield Town on August 11away from home.
After playing on Wednesday night, the Blues squad appeared not deterred as they went through another intense training session.
Chelsea’s youngsters that include Ethan Ampadu and Tammy Abraham were amongst some of the players present during the session and they will be keen to prove to Sarri that they deserve to be part of the Blues squad this campaign.
Despite finishing 5th in the English topflight and winning the FA Cup last season under Antonio Conte, Chelsea will be determined to fare better in the new campaign.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported Willian was caught on camera at Sao Paulo international airport getting set to return to the United Kingdom to face the Blues new boss Maurizio Sarri.
According to the UK Sun report, the Selecao ace delayed his return to the west London club’s Cobham training HQ after enjoying an extended vacation after representing Brazil at the summer World Cup in Russia.
The report further noted that the Brazil international was unable to meet the club’s Friday deadline set by Sarri after discovering that he was short of pages in his passport and had to wait for a new one.
