- Joel Pereira has been loaned out to Vitoria Setubal by Manchester United
- The Portugal U-21 international was in between the sticks during pre-season
- Pereira has been regarded as the sucsessor to current number one De Gea
Manchester United young goalkeeper Joel Pereira has joined Vitoria Setubal on loan.
Jose Mourinho sanctioned the move as he attempts to allow Pereira get regular game time he needs to continue his development.
The 22-year-old is regarded as the natural successor to David De Gea at Old Trafford and Mourinho personally rates him highly.
However Pereira would face the prospect of being only third choice at United this season so has been allowed to return to his homeland for a season.
Pereira was impressive in United's tour of the US, including making the decisive saves in the penalty shoot-out win over AC Milan.
But as soon as the tour ended and the senior keepers returned back up with the squad, Mourinho gave the all-clear for the move to go through.
The chance to let the young keeper spend a season learning his trade was one of the main reasons United signed veteran Lee Grant.
The 35-year-old was relegated to second choice at Stoke last season and has joined on a one year deal in a £1.5million deal.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Wolfsburg are hoping to sign Luke Shaw despite the player having no desire to leave Manchester United, according to reports.
The 23-year-old has only a year left on his current United contract and there is no indication he will be offered an extension.
