- Sokoto state governor Aminu Tambuwal has reportedly lost popularity contest in the state
- NAN reports that Sokoto was literally shut down as the surging crowd came out in a show of solidarity with Wammako who came to visit the state
- Yusuf Suleiman who was a PDP governorship aspirant in 2015 reportedly decamped to APC during the visit
Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who abandoned the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday, July 31, lost the popularity contest between him and his former godfather, Senator Aliyu Wammako, at least in the eyes of Twitterati, following the unprecedented crowd that received the Senator and his party in Sokoto today.
Sokoto was literally shut down as the surging crowd, came out in a show of solidarity with Wammako, President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress.
Immediately the plane carrying the senator landed at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, motorcyclists ran onto the tarmac to offer a guard of honour.
And from the airport to the town, traffic moved at snail speed.
Abu Bunza, who monitored Wammako’s arrival wrote on Twitter: “I knew Wamakko’s homecoming will be mad today. Those that were busy celebrating Tambuwal’s defection know nothing about Sokoto’s politics”.
He was right. One Twitter user actually used the word ‘mad’ to describe the crowd reaction and enthusiasm to the APC in the city.
One of the harvests of Wammako’s homecoming was the switch to the APC by a former minister of sports, Yusuf Suleiman, who was a PDP governorship aspirant in 2015.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Sokoto was getting for the arrival of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko who will be in the state on Saturday, August 4.
