APC newspaper is reporting that Senate minority leader and former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), News Agency of Nigeria reports.
According to the post, the former governor will formerly decamp on Thursday, August 9 and Nigeria's acting president, Prof Yemi Osibanjo will be at Ikot Ekpene stadium to receive him.
NAIJ.com however reports that the deputy governor denied the report that he had defected to the ruling All Progressives Party (APC).
NAN had earlier reported, quoting APC newspaper as saying: "BREAKING: We can confirm that, HE, Sen (Dr) Godswill Akpabio is a card carrying member of APC effective August 4, 2018. PDP has lost him," one of the posts read.
In a related development, Senator Ita Enang, presidential liaison to the National Assembly- Senate also confirmed the news in a tweet he released on Saturday, August 4.
"Acting president, Prof Yemi Osibanjo accompanied by Senator (Dr ) Ita Enang, and other leaders of the APC in Akwa Ibom state to formally receive H.E. Senator (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio into APC at Ikot Ekpene Stadium on Thursday 9 August, 2018. All lovers of Democracy are cordially invited," the second post read.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that as the minority leader of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio was reportedly planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) the lawmaker had met with Yemi Osinbajo, the country’s vice president.

Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom state, arrived the State House Villa by 3.06pm with Ita Enang, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Assembly (Senate).
