- Chelsea goalie Willy Caballero was the Blues saviour from an embarrassing defeat during the tie
Manchester City's all-time leading scorer Sergio Aguero netted his 200th and 201st goal for the Premier League champions in their 2-0 win against Chelsea in the Community Shield contest.
The encounter decided at Wembley saw Aguero open the scoring after 13 minutes with a fine low finish into the bottom-right corner from 18 yards, after an assist from Phil Foden who created the opportunity behind Chelsea defence line.
Aguero doubled the lead in the 58th minute as he scored his second to hand City a 2-0 lead.
Initially, City’s Leroy Sane failed to connect when he hit an early effort wide but the Premier League champions continued their threat going forward again when Bernado Silva’s cross evaded Sane and Aguero a couple of minutes before the Argentine opened the scoring.
An error from Chelsea’s recent signing Jorginho almost handed City a second midway through the first half.
After the Italy international gave the ball away, David Silva laid it off to Aguero who in turn found Sane, but his contact with the ball was heavy and allowed keeper Willy Caballero to save the danger.
The Blues eventually imposed themselves, with Alvaro Morata and the lively Callum Hudson-Odoi both shooting high and wide.
Indeed, teenage forward Hudson-Odoi continues to impress after he moved past Kyle Walker before trying his luck from distance but City goalie Claudio Bravo fumbled before his defenders cleared way the ball from danger.

Aguero later turned provider to set up Foden following a mistake by the Rudiger but the youngster’s effort was well saved by Caballero.
Moments later, the Argentine star punished Maurizio Sarri’s side after Hudson-Odoi lost possession of the ball, City embarked on a fast counter-attack and Aguero finished superbly for his second in the 58th minute as Chelsea continued to struggle.Interestingly, the Premier League champions were comfortable in the entire duration of the match and could easily have won the match by a greater goals margin.
But Willy Caballero was able to deny Aguero a hat-trick after keeping out a volley from his compatriot who, along with youngster Foden, were Chelsea’s tormentors throughout the encounter.
Indeed, Caballero had a very decent performance and produced late saves to deny Brahim Díaz twice and Gabriel Jesus.
The Blues kick start hostilities in the Premier League season at Huddersfield next weekend but play out their last pre-season tie against Lyon at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Aguero has surpassed Eric Brook's long-standing club record of 177 last season when he scored in November's 4-2 Champions League win at Napoli – another team coached by Maurizio Sarri.
The Argentine forward had to wait to add to his 199th for the club, which came during the EFL Cup final win against Arsenal on February 25, with a troublesome knee injury limiting his playing time towards the end of last season.
And after the disappointment of Argentina's La Albiceleste show at the summer World Cup in Russia, Aguero kicked off the new season with a brace at Wembley to finally land his milestone for the Citizens.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Chelsea’s Brazilian midfielder Willian returned to training with Chelsea on Thursday, and the Brazilian looked sharp to impress new boss Maurizio Sarri ahead of the Community Shield season raiser against Manchester City on Sunday.
