For the second time in a few days, Nigeria’s vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has met with the majrity leader of the country’s Senate, Ahmed Lawan as Godswill Akpabio plans to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The meeting is said to be ongoing and comes at a time the minority leader of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.
Akpabio had earlier met with Osinbajo before proceeding to visit President Muhammadu Buhari in London recently.
Sahara Reporters states that Lawan, a representative of Yobe North district at the Senate, arrived the villa shortly after 2pm and proceeded straight to the office of Osinbajo, who is currently acting as the country’s president in the absence of Buhari.
The report also said Ita Enang, the senior special assistant to the president on National Assembly matters (Senate), was also present at the meeting.
Recently, there was mass defection of members of the National Assembly from the APC to the PDP. Days later, the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, also defected to the opposition party.
NAIJ.com reported that the senator representing Borno south, Ali Ndume, took a swipe at some of his colleagues who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It was reported that while speaking to journalists in Maiduguri on Saturday, August 4, he explained that most of them have corruption questions to answer and are therefore doing everything they can to stop the president’s re-election in 2019.
He said: “This is a gang up which is targeted to Buhari by politicians that are afraid."
