- PDP says it is not aware of Godswill Akpabio’s planned defection to the ruling APC
- The party insists that it will not respond to speculations of the senator’s readiness to defect
- APC claims Senator Akpabio has left the PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said Senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, did not inform members of the party of his planned visit to London where he met with President Muhammadu Buhari.
The national publicity secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Monday, August 6, said the former governor told PDP members that he was visiting Germany and not London, The Punch reports.
Ologbondiyan said Akpabio visit to London was likely a technical stopover. The PDP chieftain stated that the opposition party was not aware of Akpabio’s planned defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“He told us he was going to Germany and if he ended up in London, maybe, he had a technical stopover, Ologbondiyan said.
“The PDP has no issues with Akpabio whatsoever and the party will not respond to speculations of his readiness to defect. We have no notice of the said defection and all I can say now is that we will cross the bridge when we get there.”
Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Godswill Akpabio, might defect to the APC any time soon.
There are indications that he is in serious talks with the APC and might dump his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), once the “terms” are wrapped up, The Nation reports.
This move is said to have unsettled the PDP as analysts believe it will be a major boost for President Muhammadu Buhari in the south-south ahead of the 2019 election.
