Amidst the confusion at the National Assembly gate Tuesday, August 7, an Edo state lawmaker, Honourable EJ Agbonniyiama accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) being responsible for the development, Vanguard reports.
Agbonniyiama, who was elected on the platform of the PDP defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in May, 2018.
Speaking with newsmen who were denied access into the NASS complex by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the lawmaker alleged that the barricade by security personnel was caused by the PDP.
Agbonniyiama further claimed that senators of the opposition are blackmailing their counterparts in the ruling party.
However, while he was still speaking with journalists, a group of youths apparently in solidarity with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the PDP started chanting loudly “APC has failed!” continuously, which forced the lawmaker to leave the scene.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the emergency meeting of the leadership of the NASS scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, August 7, had been called off as a result of the security situation at the legislative building.
NAIJ.com gathered the deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yussuff Lasun, told reporters that with the tense situation at the NASS, the meeting was no longer feasible.
