Security operatives have reportedly lifted the siege on the National Assembly. The lift came barely an hour after the announcement of the sack of the director general of the State Security Service (SSS), Lawal Daura.
Premium Times reports that the mask-wearing officers, mainly of the SSS, who blocked entrance to the National Assembly from early hours of Tuesday, August 7, left the assembly gate at about 2:49pm.
Premium Times reports that the senators who left the assembly complex earlier, were mainly of the opposition party, PDP.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the acting President Yemi Osinbajo sacked Lawal Daura, the director-general of the Department of State Services.
A statement by Laolu Akande, his spokesperson, said: “The acting president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), has directed the termination of the appointment of the director general, State Security Service, Lawal Musa Daura, with immediate effect.
“Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.”

Osinbajo also summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the Director-General of the Department of State Security, Mallam Lawan Daura, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The two security chiefs, who arrived Aso Rock at different times, were to update the acting president on security developments including the blockade of the National Assembly by security officials.
In a related development, Lawal Daura, the sacked director-general of the DSS, has reportedly been arrested and detained.
Daura was allegedly arrested by a combined team of the police and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for “breaching national security”.
News of the arrest was said to have sparked wild jubilation at the DSS headquarters. Daura was allegedly detained at the SARS headquarters.
