- The presidency has denied it's involvement in the siege at National Assembly
- The presidency also insisted that the APC has no knowledge of why the DSS blocked the National Assembly
The special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on political matters, Babafemi ojodu, on Wednesday, August 8, said the presidency and the All Progressives Congress have nothing to do with the siege at the National Assembly.
Ojodu who made the statement during Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, said neither APC nor Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is aware of why officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) prevented lawmakers from entering the National Assembly complex on Tuesday.
He said: “He (Osinbajo) was in the dark, he didn’t know. He got to know about that incident like you and me."
“No single member of APC was at the premises of National Assembly when that happened.”
Ojudu said he counted dozens of PDP lawmakers at the premises of the Assembly while none of their colleagues on the platform of the APC was present.
He also faulted the former Director General of DSS, Lawal Daura, for not seeking the consent of the Acting President before sending security operatives to the complex.
“If you sensed that trouble was coming and you then decided to barricade, so how did those people who entered managed to enter? Who did you discuss with before even going to barricade?
“The Acting President was not informed, he was not told. If you are going to take such a measure as a security chief, you need to consult with the commander-in-chief of the country.”
NAIJ.com earlier reported that Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday, August 7, sacked the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura.
Osinbajo also summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the Director-General of the Department of State Security, Mallam Lawan Daura, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The two security chiefs, who arrived Aso Rock at different times, were to update the acting president on security developments including the blockade of the National Assembly by security officials.
