The Serie A giants are preparing a massive annual salary of £10million for the Los Blancos superstar but new Galaticos manager Julen Lopetegui is refusing to be persuaded that the Croatian is going nowhere.
However, Modric will now have to tell Los Blancos president Florentino Perez that he wants to quit before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.
The reports further claim the San Siro outfit want to make a statement signing in midfield as they target to overthrow Juventus as Serie A champions in the coming season.
Already, hree Croatian players - Marcelo Brozovic, Ivan Perisic and new loan signing Sime Vrsaljko from Atletico Madrid currently plies their trade with the Serie A outfit.
Interestingly, if Mordic seal the switch he will be joining from teammate Cristiano Ronaldo who left the Spanish capital for Italy after sealing a move to Juventus after nine fruitful seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, Lopetegui remains confident Modric, who has won four Champions League titles with the Santiago Bernabeu side will remain at Spanish giants,
“The president has already given an answer, I don't have much else to add,” Lopetegui said on Sunday.
“Modric's an extraordinary player, we await him with open arms. I talked to him after his excellent World Cup and we'll see if he can play on August 15 (against Atletico Madrid in the European Super Cup), our first big objective of the season.
“I told him he was a player I'm passionate about, I love him and he knows it. He'll be happy with the proposal he receives here.
“He'll be happy to play football, like he already was, at Real Madrid. Luka is a Madrid player and will continue to be, I have no doubt. We've enjoyed having him and we'll continue to do so,” the former La Roja manager submitted.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported Real Madrid have reportedly made Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic their priority target should they lose Luka Modric this summer.
