FEC approves construction of N348bn Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road

- The FEC has approved a N348.594 billion contract for the construction of the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road

- The project scope covers the expansion of the current two-lane highway into a dual carriage way

- The Council had in May 2018, also given approval for the Ninth Mile Enugu to Makurdi road

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) led by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, August 8, approved a N348.594 billion contract for the construction of the 420.6 kilometers Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road.

The development was made public by the minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola, Independent reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that the minister disclosed that the project scope covers the expansion of the current two-lane highway into a dual carriage way.

According to Fashola, the project is significant because it completes the integration of the north-central with the north-east and south-east.

He further disclosed that the Council had in May 2018, also given approval for the Ninth Mile Enugu to Makurdi road which connects the south-east to the north-central.

He said the construction process will span over a period of 48 months.

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, August 8, presided over the Federal Executive Council meeting in the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari who is away on vacation in the United Kingdom.

Opening prayers were said by the minister of state for environment, Ibrahim Jibrin and the minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu.
