Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state has confirmed the passing on of his mother, GoldCoast Dickson. She was aged 72.
The governor in a statement on Thursday, August 9, by his chief press secretary, Francis Ottah-Agbo, said Ms GoldCoast died of cancer at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, Texas, United States, where she had been receiving treatment, The Punch reports.
Dickson expressed appreciation to the centre, especially the team of medical professionals, who did their best to save the life of his mother.
The governor also thanked family members, friends, political associates and Nigerians generally for their prayers and support in the most trying times for the Dickson’s family.
NAIJ.com gathered that the statement said that until her last breathe, the deceased was a quintessential mother, devout Christian and community leader who devoted her lifetime to the service of God and humanity.
Condolence registers have been opened in Government House, Yenagoa, the governor’s residences in Opolo, Yenagoa and Toru-Orua community in Sagbama local government area, Bayelsa state liaison office in Abuja and Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.
Funeral details will be announced by the family at a later date.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had previously reported that a monthly allowance of N3,000 for pregnant women was announced by Governor Dickson.
The governor made the announcement on Monday, July 30, during the maiden Infant and Maternal Mortality Summit held in Yenago, the state capital.
Dickson said the allowance was meant to cover the cost of antenatal care for expectant mothers every month.
