The acting director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mathew Seiyefa, on Thursday, August 9, promised Nigerians that the agency will continue to protect the nation’s interest at all times.
Channels TV reports that Seiyefa made this known in an interactive session with reporters in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
He also vowed that the service, under his watch, would respect and uphold the legitimate rights of all Nigerians without promoting the individual rights of any person above the interest of the country.

The DSS acting DG noted that the agency was ready to partner with all stakeholders to contain all forms of national threats in the country.
He maintained that DSS would ensure its best to protect the rights of the citizens, it would not tolerate the abuse of freedom of speech by any person.
Seyeifa said the service would also protect its constitutional mandate as its reviews the issues which portray the DSS in a bad light.
According to him, some of the issues that are of concern include the alleged detention and trial of criminal suspects in the country.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported reported that the director-general of the DSS, Lawal Daura, was sacked by the acting president Yemi Osinbajo.
According to tweets by Laolu Akande, senior special assistant to the acting president. Osinbajo "directed the termination of the appointment of the DG of the DSS, Lawal Musa Daura.
“Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice,” Akande said.
In a related development, Matthew Seiyefa was confirmed as the person to take over as acting DG of DSS.
Seiyefa, who hails from Bayelsa state, had earlier served as the director of the Institute of Security Studies (ISS), before he was moved to the DSS headquarters.
