Ex-SSG misled me into firing my commissioner - Governor Umahi

- Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state has revealed how he was misled by SSG to fire his commissioner

- The commissioner, Moses Ogodoali, was reported to have been sacked in April for alleged misconduct

- Bernard Odoh who was the SSG had dumped PDP for APC

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state on Thursday, August 9, said he was misled by a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to sack one of his commissioners, Moses Ogodoali, who has now been reinstated.

New Telegraph reports that Ogodoali was sacked about four months ago for alleged misconduct.

NAIJ.com gathered that Bernard Odoh was the SSG when Ogodoali was relieved of his duty as commissioner for agriculture.

It was gathered that Ogodoali was also the commissioner for environment and empowerment and job creation in the current administration in the state.

Odoh had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) while Ogodoali was on Thursday, August 9, sworn-in after his reinstatement by Umahi.

Speaking after Ogodoali took the oath of office, Umahi said he should have been suspended and not outrightly sacked for the offence committed.

The governor said extreme politics, which according to him had ravaged the nation’s political landscape, played out in the Ogodoali’s case and commended him for his patience and believing in his administration.

He said: “I want to commend you for your character; actually the government was misled by the former SSG on your case.

"By the advice of a private discussion, it supposed to be suspension for not attending the meeting of ministry of agriculture that I called that early morning and I want to make it very clear that there was no time anybody suspected you of attending any other political meeting, there was nothing like that. Nobody has ever said anything like that.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had previously reported that Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state denied decamping from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umahi added that “even if there is a need” for him to leave the PDP, he can never leave for the “kind of APC in Ebonyi state."

It was reported that Umahi said this on Tuesday, July 17, while addressing journalists regarding recent reports that he has left the PDP.

Regarded in some quarters as an ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, the governor once reportedly expressed support for the president to seek a second term in office.

But he said his relationship with President Buhari is personal because the president is his “boss.” “Mr President or any APC person has never asked me to come to APC, and they will never ask me. And there is no reason for me to leave my party, PDP, of which I was the party chairman, deputy governor and now governor,” he said.
