One Abiodun Adeyemi Faseyitan has been arraigned by the Ibadan zonal office of the Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before a high court in Ibadan on a 6-count charge of obtaining money under false pretense.
According to Yabaleft, Faseyitan, who was arraigned on Thursday, August 9, before Justice M Abimbola, was said to have presented himself to a pastor and founder of a new generation church (name withheld) as a senior staff of EFCC in 2013.
NAIJ.com gathers that the defendant promised to assist members of the pastor's congregation to secure employment from the federal government and purchase vehicles that were on auction sales in the anti-graft agency.
He also allegedly promised to use his connection in the commission to assist them to travel abroad.
The defendant was said to have defrauded the pastor of N2,477,500 (two million, four hundred and seventy-seven thousand, five hundred naira) and also received several millions of naira from her church members, all of which he pleaded not guilty to.
Counsel to the EFCC, Ben Ubi, prayed the court for a trial date and for the accused to be remanded in prison. But counsel to the defendant, Adeleke Bakare, prayed the court to allow him move an oral application for bail.
However, Justice Abimbola, who adjourned the case to September 7, 2018, for trial, ordered the defence to present a formal application for bail, saying that the accused should be remanded in Agodi prison pending the hearing and determination of his bail application.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos Zonal Office, on Monday, February 26, 2018, arraigned one Nsa Ayi before Justice Mojisola Dada of the state high court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.
He was arraigned on an 11-count charge bordering on fraudulent false accounting to the tune of N700,000,000 (seven hundred million naira).
