- Luka Modric set to commit his future with Real Madrid
- The Croatian midfielder was the best player at the World Cup
- The 32-year-old has been heavily linked with Inter Milan
Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has reportedly agreed a new deal with the club, amid Inter Milan speculation.
The 32-year-old playmaker had an outstanding World Cup campaign with his country Croatia, helping his nation reach their first final.
He was named the tournament’s best player in Russia, receiving the Golden Ball in recognition of his performances.
According to Italian media outfit Sky, the former Tottenham star had seriously been interested in a move to Inter where three of his countrymen play.
Striker Ivan Perisic posted an image on social media of himself alongside Marcelo Brozovic and recent addition Sime Vrsaljko.
The 26-year-old winger, who has been linked with Manchester United, cheekily tagged Modric in the image and put "#whoismissing?" on his caption.
But Madrid fans will be relieved to hear Modric has agreed a deal to stay at the Bernabeu.
And according to Spanish new outlet Marca, Modric’s increased wages will now the same with captain Sergio Ramos and only behind Gareth Bale.
The pay rise is an indication of how important he is to Los Blancos and how much he is valued by the club's top brass.
Modric seemed to be enticed by Inter's interest in him, which was reported to be a six-year contract offer.
If agreed Modric would joined the San Siro outfit for four years and two spend the remaining two years at their Chinese sister club Jiangsu Suning.
Inter manager Luciano Spalletti having publicly declared that he was “dreaming” alongside club supporters of the player’s San Siro arrival.
But Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was determined to hang on to Modric in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit last month.
Perez declared that the only way the midfielder would be sold was if his enormous £676m release clause was met.
The Croatian legend has won 14 trophies at Real Madrid, including the last three consecutive Champions League titles.
