Tales of police brutality are common. However it is not so common to hear stories about police being brutalised by the people. What is, however, important to note is that violence never helped anybody.
The assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Bassey Ewah, narrated the tale of how one of his former course mates was murdered by robbers in the presence of his family, NAIJ.com gathered.
The ACP shared the lengthy narration on mobile messaging application, WhatsApp, and the story was in turn shared by police assistant public relation officer, Aliyu Giwa, on his Instagram page.
Bassey Ewah narrated how his course mate known as Tiger with his family went to visit a family friend in Surulere. After the visit, he waited for his wife to come and join him outside, when he was accosted by some boys. They claimed to know him and also accused him of being one of the men responsible for their arrest during a robbery operation.
The robbers expressed their anger that Tiger and the other policemen refused the bribe they were offered and chose to arrest them instead. They also explained that they were now free and would punish him.
Tiger was badly beaten by the robbers while his wife who had rushed out of the house with her kids pleaded that they leave her husband alone.
The robbers kept on attacking Tiger. They found a service pistol in his possession and put it in his mouth and shot him dead right in front of his wife and two kids.
The ACP further narrated that the incident had happened over 20 years ago, but that he still missed him dearly.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported how the police alerted the public on new tactics employed by criminals to rob victims. it had been discovered that some robbers disguise as drivers with their accomplices pretending to be passengers while they lure unsuspecting victims to their trap.
